SERVICE IN-CAR METERS
What is a Service In-Car Meter
These meters allow a service vehicle to park in any legal metered space in downtown Aspen. The meters also allow service vehicles to park in residential spaces, exempt from the two-hour time limit.
How Does It Work?
The Service In-Car Meter hangs from your service vehicle's rearview mirror. Simply turn it on when parked downtown and turn it off when you leave. Your prepaid hours count down while you are parked.
When parked in a residential area, simply hang the meter in your rearview mirror (without turning it on) to be exempted from the two-hour time limit.
Where Can I Park and for How Long?
Your Service In-Car Meter allows you to park a service vehicle in any legal metered space in downtown Aspen for up to eight hours. Your meter also allows a service vehicle to park in the residential areas, exempt from the two-hour limit.
What Does it Cost?
Service In-Car Meters can be loaded with any amount between $20 and $200. In addition to pre-paid time, a refundable deposit of $50 and a non-refundable administration fee of $25 are required at purchase.
What are the Parking Rates?
The first hour of parking in a metered space will cost $1. Each additional hour will cost $0.50. There is an eight hour maximum in downtown metered spaces. Service vehicles may park in residential areas for more than two hours at no cost (meter must be hanging in rearview mirror).
What are the Rules?
- Vehicles must be on an active service call. Not for personal use or vehicle storage.
- Your meter does not guarantee a parking space. Vehicles must be parked in a legal space or they will be ticketed.
- Abuse of Service In-Car Meters will result in loss of privileges. The City of Aspen is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen meters.
- Parking prices are subject to change.
- A current business license is required to purchase Service In-Car Meters. Meters must be purchased with a company check or credit card.
The definition for essential vehicle is as follows:
The type of business described in the business license normally requires the vehicle to be on-site due to (1) the bulk of
the items being used in the professional service (2) the need for repeated and frequent trips for tools or parts to and
from the vehicle, beyond that which could be easily unloaded (i.e Public Utilities).
The vehicle will be permitted to park at the pay-and-display metered areas (beyond the four hour maximum) with the valid
meter displayed while on the service call. Parking at the short-term meters (15 min. or 30 min) will require payment.
Please contact the Parking Department for additional details.
