The Pitkin County Community Development office includes the Planning, Zoning and Building departments.
Community Development is responsible for issuing all variations of permits. In addition, the department handles
Historic Property Review, Development, Long Range Planning, as well as, the review of all land use applications and zoning enforcement.
Building
- New 2006 Requirements from Aspen Consolidated Sanitation District
- Reviews building permit applications
- Conducts building inspections
- Administers contractor licensing program
- Provide on-call staff to answer questions related to building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes
- Provide educational materials including hand-outs and code books
- Assigns addresses to properties
Planning
- Facilitates and implements master plans that provide direction for the future growth of the County
- Analyzes development and land use applications with input from referral agencies and makes recommendations to decision-making bodies based on the Pitkin County Land Use Code
- Provides information to the public regarding land use regulations and general planning
Zoning
- Reviews building permits and devlopment applications for compliance with the Pitkin County Land Use Code and any land use approvals
- Enforces land-use/zoning regulations
- Provides information to the public regarding zoning regulations
