
The mission of the Community Relations department is to design and implement creative opportunities to include, involve, engage and inform Pitkin County's public. Specific duties include:
CREATIVE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION
Design and implement creative opportunities to include, involve, engage and inform the public including press releases, advertisements, public service
announcements, and public notices. Promote positive aspects and accomplishments of Pitkin County.
CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
Support and train staff in developing processes for citizen participation. Oversee Community Involved Governance philosophy and goals.
Find creative ways to involve the public in problem identification and problem solving.
MEDIA RELATIONS and MEDIA RELATIONS TRAINING
Strengthen relationships with local journalists. Respond immediately to media requests. Assist media in story research and development.
Improve staff comfort and response to media inquiries through joint trainings with City of Aspen.
PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER
Serve as primary point of media contact for the County in an emergency or for other media inquiries. Archive stories about Pitkin County for easy reference.
MEETING ENHANCEMENT
Design and facilitate internal and external meetings that produce results and meet objectives.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Mediate internal and external county disputes and emerging issues.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT
Support County operations via participation in Section Leaders team, special projects of County Manager and BOCC, and the Pitkin County newsletter.
SUPERVISION
Supervise Social Services, Senior Services, Environmental Health, Public Relations and Community Relations Contract Management
